The first was a stack and whack quilt (Paula's specialty) made from Hawaiian fabric she purchased on vacation to the islands. I quilted it with the Tropics pantograph.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizyIq87TI28a8L_Jp9HFln52Iy_lH58BiQQhAMmGDRyzNwl18EuZjx_g3q1WNbXx9w5YMMGOMOUB6SzqFifVm7UWnlg_S2toDuY6qE7FZcdyzAudECyT3OjDoTHHzqLMn9Ylm1KJ796_U/s1936/Photo%25252020150916232759670.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizyIq87TI28a8L_Jp9HFln52Iy_lH58BiQQhAMmGDRyzNwl18EuZjx_g3q1WNbXx9w5YMMGOMOUB6SzqFifVm7UWnlg_S2toDuY6qE7FZcdyzAudECyT3OjDoTHHzqLMn9Ylm1KJ796_U/s500/Photo%25252020150916232759670.jpg" id="blogsy-1442460561300.9734" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="500"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj89jk2RtUXZupFfUGwFDYQES0Lg_DreVzB-3ZXg_gKAzal3ah9asMS8gHgCN638Ig41HQVvPcy86IcZax_VkXGKHZgp5DJuXv1jUCkYDE_bKKWqfrYGSEimmToJMAf851fQEBDvterkQE/s1936/Photo%25252020150916232759918.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj89jk2RtUXZupFfUGwFDYQES0Lg_DreVzB-3ZXg_gKAzal3ah9asMS8gHgCN638Ig41HQVvPcy86IcZax_VkXGKHZgp5DJuXv1jUCkYDE_bKKWqfrYGSEimmToJMAf851fQEBDvterkQE/s500/Photo%25252020150916232759918.jpg" id="blogsy-1442460561363.8025" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="500"></a></div><p> The second quilt was a departure for Paula. It's a beautiful quilt made of cotton, flannel and wool with embroidery to boot. I was extremely intimidated to work on it not only for its beauty, but because I've not done a flannel and wool quilt yet. I had a feeling that trying to rip out stitches from flannel would not be easy. So I pretested my background filler ideas.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_sGyWQqt0Vdkqwa4-H0YZLsezjbKQm3WKrruAX_8KEpciI4fYGjrv6MdhCDfoaIaiaQsX5VipeojOgDLY0PYORes54r6wnuZqngRL8vtUXrV94UPeqe66Ua_lupxbgHQfquRdJumpwrc/s2048/Photo%25252020150912174952099.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_sGyWQqt0Vdkqwa4-H0YZLsezjbKQm3WKrruAX_8KEpciI4fYGjrv6MdhCDfoaIaiaQsX5VipeojOgDLY0PYORes54r6wnuZqngRL8vtUXrV94UPeqe66Ua_lupxbgHQfquRdJumpwrc/s500/Photo%25252020150912174952099.jpg" id="blogsy-1442094916724.7036" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="669"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7sn2Sr1uIz-nty9yPg_pk90gxeVFTPEQLGT6f5p9ItBQvcRhWiGAnt6KnnLYayS_Y-39C5zEsjrKPqPLLtEm9L3mbBfevflZ8Ax4fxqjOoNxltdXR3Gvt3EhzaDp2wlQXd_0jAAEWavI/s2048/Photo%25252020150912174952357.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7sn2Sr1uIz-nty9yPg_pk90gxeVFTPEQLGT6f5p9ItBQvcRhWiGAnt6KnnLYayS_Y-39C5zEsjrKPqPLLtEm9L3mbBfevflZ8Ax4fxqjOoNxltdXR3Gvt3EhzaDp2wlQXd_0jAAEWavI/s500/Photo%25252020150912174952357.jpg" id="blogsy-1442094916723.333" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="669"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOZu0coZWnxJbiM_3r2fZ1iuY0BNsFtsRAqZzvR5gmOV8nRyfU6pWIxCMf44yFHX6qLT5-F1rvN-U6_a15pjThzxSznhqIYzukQyCbLK_BFX4liKjl78j-kaW0uUL0GSW50XzI55_XDE/s2048/Photo%25252020150912174952622.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOZu0coZWnxJbiM_3r2fZ1iuY0BNsFtsRAqZzvR5gmOV8nRyfU6pWIxCMf44yFHX6qLT5-F1rvN-U6_a15pjThzxSznhqIYzukQyCbLK_BFX4liKjl78j-kaW0uUL0GSW50XzI55_XDE/s500/Photo%25252020150912174952622.jpg" id="blogsy-1442094916660.1191" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="669"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKy4CrzJr70uc2m5HTPl0hlGGJINmb1A3vg6vMpALV0kQ8RN7G4qKuBPVOJxYcs64y6PATR50ueVvN1be4URb5ru7kAIWA044oxAfuSwzuJ7zyowcXao5govJXOSoWE-PbC2odg6M2OJM/s2048/Photo%25252020150912174952894.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKy4CrzJr70uc2m5HTPl0hlGGJINmb1A3vg6vMpALV0kQ8RN7G4qKuBPVOJxYcs64y6PATR50ueVvN1be4URb5ru7kAIWA044oxAfuSwzuJ7zyowcXao5govJXOSoWE-PbC2odg6M2OJM/s500/Photo%25252020150912174952894.jpg" id="blogsy-1442094916695.3235" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="669"></a></div><p> Some worked some didn't and I didn't have to rip out anything. I decided to quilt different fillers in each of the blocks. So I loaded up the top and got to work. I found that quilting on the flannel with a wool batting was extremely forgiving! I didn't even feel the need to use invisible thread for stitching around the appliqué. Half way through, my check spring needed replacing. This was evident by some intermittent bird's nests on the back. I found I could rip out easily if I did it from the back.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN5TX79UofxrAOS0sldjNVuaS5K_bmIlU3HLCsohyxc2GeAf5IuXPRp7K2xjoIzUntD7qv_o4dytH2RMjNAbWAWsvMs-SL_krZ29T1xodk8jiDcirGNSZDpC4EFXMZpHU5BpACnIBGyus/s2048/Photo%25252020150912174953176.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN5TX79UofxrAOS0sldjNVuaS5K_bmIlU3HLCsohyxc2GeAf5IuXPRp7K2xjoIzUntD7qv_o4dytH2RMjNAbWAWsvMs-SL_krZ29T1xodk8jiDcirGNSZDpC4EFXMZpHU5BpACnIBGyus/s500/Photo%25252020150912174953176.jpg" id="blogsy-1442094916722.976" class="alignnone" alt="" width="500" height="373"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">I tried to do some Nemeshing in the dark borders and around the flowers. Her Gaslight pattern is one of my favorites. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd-R-0DFbAjGj48JVbxhjdOweqxeyAbKKuZVkpWn_XXG9sZEe8lU3MqBBU0GggufnVVZTUDVjk0k64MZDdZXYbFzfq4bGkyqmeAoUQT2is3dqnGsuoiFsCZIQoaw2L1MMY4UsgnPx0NVc/s2048/Photo%25252020150324121834246.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd-R-0DFbAjGj48JVbxhjdOweqxeyAbKKuZVkpWn_XXG9sZEe8lU3MqBBU0GggufnVVZTUDVjk0k64MZDdZXYbFzfq4bGkyqmeAoUQT2is3dqnGsuoiFsCZIQoaw2L1MMY4UsgnPx0NVc/s500/Photo%25252020150324121834246.jpg" id="blogsy-1427213949529.8516" class="alignnone" width="500" height="373" alt=""></a></div><p> </p><p>This beautiful quilt was made by Carol. I *love* the colors she chose. When I first saw this quilt, I knew I wanted to put some sort of design behind all the gaslights. I drew all sorts of shapes before Carol and I settled on this tile effect. Jessica thinks it looks Morrocan.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyAYl9xOWiAp6MyhNhFUFuWgos-RA5S6nyYQZFUnGTC3jO-8lqJ6qk7_sz638_gyCYBW_ZMlvom5CeBuASkX5OD_JypAGMJHYO7gj_nqgSv3o1oW54ky8Ssv3v7Q7f913xoZLHYdjGoqo/s2048/Photo%25252020150324121834502.jpg" target="_blank" style=""><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyAYl9xOWiAp6MyhNhFUFuWgos-RA5S6nyYQZFUnGTC3jO-8lqJ6qk7_sz638_gyCYBW_ZMlvom5CeBuASkX5OD_JypAGMJHYO7gj_nqgSv3o1oW54ky8Ssv3v7Q7f913xoZLHYdjGoqo/s500/Photo%25252020150324121834502.jpg" id="blogsy-1427213949456.3938" class="alignnone" width="500" height="373" alt=""></a></div><p> I found a path that let me do all the tiles between a line of gaslights in one fell swoop. Paula's an expert on stack and whack method of making quilts so she used this on some Hawaiian fabric. She wanted a pantograph which was reminiscent of a plumeria. I think her choice is perfect!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: none;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjehpDPyhcrXQsUuAr4KMXXsPKrrche2-ZVNn-kcGAptGdEni5mlu9CX6OsAicOzde6RBZpayYdRKsJXOZLnOTNJY4nmeY-SEnjAbkZozzh_a_0G_NqdaS0iLl7e9MerqfLpTQTnLZ6YU/s2048/Photo%25252020150321175954139.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="" class="alignnone" height="373" id="blogsy-1426975276331.21" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjehpDPyhcrXQsUuAr4KMXXsPKrrche2-ZVNn-kcGAptGdEni5mlu9CX6OsAicOzde6RBZpayYdRKsJXOZLnOTNJY4nmeY-SEnjAbkZozzh_a_0G_NqdaS0iLl7e9MerqfLpTQTnLZ6YU/s500/Photo%25252020150321175954139.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
Paula and her husband Ron are also sailors. She made a quilt to use at her camp where they often go sailing. She wanted boats stitched on the top so I tried to make the boats floating on water.<br />

First is a scrap quilt by Georgia. She's trying to use up a lot of batik scraps used in other quilts. The Flourish pantograph was used.</div>

So quick to quilt and so slow to rip!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvbr1ddX8ZUhfU7Zs2Uhy2poJ53oQr1QYr2Ph-_Sj1bdZOC231ITa0H2t4-ymJSRiTiZF8jQy2t98xkMje5RAA7SseVG89f37MMbgpe4BpGPm8rLtEa3aIMHAmWWxCGwEa3wtxeTrCAqU/s1600/IMG_2012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvbr1ddX8ZUhfU7Zs2Uhy2poJ53oQr1QYr2Ph-_Sj1bdZOC231ITa0H2t4-ymJSRiTiZF8jQy2t98xkMje5RAA7SseVG89f37MMbgpe4BpGPm8rLtEa3aIMHAmWWxCGwEa3wtxeTrCAqU/s1600/IMG_2012.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As soon as I completed all the cross hatching on this block, I realized it was wrong! See, I had loaded the quilt sideways so I'd save time on rolling. Didn't realize I'd waste the savings in ripping. See I stitched the stencil sideways. The diamond shape should have skinny side pointing to the top of the quilt which is to the left or the right. Argh! But after many days, I completed the quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Tops I would never dream of making. This is one of those quilts made by a nonagenarian quilter. It's so beautiful already. It will be a pleasure to quilt!<br />

I love how the stars twinkle in and out of the lovely fabrics she chose. It was quilted with the circuit path design.<br />

Kathy got the pattern for this quilt from the Joyful Quilter quilt shop. They had a veteran's quilt display a couple of months ago and offered patterns for some, maybe all, of the quilts shown. Isn't her back great too!<br />

She's moving to Florida in a few weeks and wanted me to custom quilt one of her quilts before leaving. This was a difficult quilt to come up with a quilting plan for since there were all those odd white spaces. She said she liked feathers so I tried to incorporate some of those. She was happy with the result as was I.<br />

Thanks to Sharon L. for poking me to do so. Since I last posted, I started a long arm quilting business, Stitch By Stitch. I hope to add some pictures of quilts that I've quilted for others in this blog.<br />
<br />
Here is one of Sharon's recent quilts that I quilted for her. I love the fresh colors in this quilt and the design Sharon selected is just perfect!<br />

Taking classes with a guild is a great way to meet new people and learn something along the way! Nancy was teaching a pineapple block made the old fashioned way. That means no paper piecing! Here's one of the class samples.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsoZYZrz_B-2oX7EqC9Yunn2MOhB_32_yRiNjit0JSqop8ELRSjX7SdtrYYrXl6KAaNRr7Q7tOWODkimi7ypW0ZymEhnYY_7c5rCyhI9vkuccjYlC4QHdO3fAUtDcXmzxn1mhMbboypcU/s1600/NancyBillsSample.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsoZYZrz_B-2oX7EqC9Yunn2MOhB_32_yRiNjit0JSqop8ELRSjX7SdtrYYrXl6KAaNRr7Q7tOWODkimi7ypW0ZymEhnYY_7c5rCyhI9vkuccjYlC4QHdO3fAUtDcXmzxn1mhMbboypcU/s640/NancyBillsSample.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Creating those pineapple blocks accurately was challenging for me! But they sure looked nice when done. I particularly liked a lot of blocks put together. In the quilt below, the block starts at the small four patch and works in rings out. Triangles go in the corner of the block. It makes for a striking quilt when you put the blocks together and you can make some interesting secondary designs by fiddling with that triangle in the corner. Here's another of Nancy's quilts that a lot larger.</div>

I love how she put the navy blue as her final boarder around the outside, kind of like a scalloped edge. I wanted to do that too. But I didn't want a wall hanging, I wanted to make a table runner. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had to put an extra round around to get the blocks facing the way I wanted. I never could figure out how to get that blue border to make the scallopy edge. It looks so simple in her quilt, but I really drew a blank on it. So I ended up putting three blocks together and quilting a pantograph over the whole thing. And I really love it! Thanks Nancy for a great class!</div>

It was only partially embroidered so she painted in the unembroidered parts. She asked me if I would quilt it up for her. She made an offer I couldn't refuse. She's a storyteller and would do a program for the day program my daughter goes to in exchange for quilting the quilt. How could I say no? So here's the quilt top after I added borders from the fabric she supplied.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcNcnyUcNF_V5nRExcPy9OEp0TEgVxbfkUlX_tEBuj4R9euNRuXUyXtmMEJUsuszAXRt7uStfKIVBWbvEaTGwD_gIXR7EfcJ98SLA13APC9z2EYYzDLQ5QeKM0nsSqHJPBbPXT0-fPQTc/s1600/IMAG0306.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcNcnyUcNF_V5nRExcPy9OEp0TEgVxbfkUlX_tEBuj4R9euNRuXUyXtmMEJUsuszAXRt7uStfKIVBWbvEaTGwD_gIXR7EfcJ98SLA13APC9z2EYYzDLQ5QeKM0nsSqHJPBbPXT0-fPQTc/s1600/IMAG0306.jpeg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are the lines stamped on it for quilting.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I originally thought I would quilt butterflies on that X box but in thinking more about it, realized the blue lines would show through and might never be removed as I don't know if she plans on washing the quilt or not. And I didn't want to wash it with all that paint...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I loaded it up and started quilting!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a close up of one of the butterflies. You can still see the stamped cross stitch under the paint.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here is the quilt nearly completed. I'm in the process of turning the quilt to finish the borders.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I quilted around each cross stitch butterfly and leaf group. I was seeing cross eyed by the time I got done!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcW8S4KMLvY-HI7-dtyhHJi557-dsWtqWhtEAyuf0v3DgK62knj6JfyS9cLThmEZYlm_JQwKzmSk6mHGRsMfxd7Yeuejnyx1S2EXwymbEC0bdQLPo0dJpRqM3FQjpVxJIXo1Hi0oNI4ag/s1600/DSC02709.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcW8S4KMLvY-HI7-dtyhHJi557-dsWtqWhtEAyuf0v3DgK62knj6JfyS9cLThmEZYlm_JQwKzmSk6mHGRsMfxd7Yeuejnyx1S2EXwymbEC0bdQLPo0dJpRqM3FQjpVxJIXo1Hi0oNI4ag/s320/DSC02709.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here's the view from the back. I'm not entirely happy with the amount of unquilted space around and under the butterflies. The bat is a nice fluffy one, so it fills the spaces pretty well. It's really pretty cuddly. I'm not sure what she plans on doing with the quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I'm glad it's off my frame!</div>

It certainly has been a while since I updated this blog! Thanks to Sharon who spurred me on to look at it again. So to catch up for the last year, I have some photos. First, I finished and gifted last Christmas (!) the Feis dress for my granddaughter Megan. She grows so fast it will soon be time to make another one for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdJ4DiJj1_an6FCv6buH5HhFqx_9hz4YCxxM3A-hsG1nYG1OxAC9RGOTvIgD_xjFONpRhn5wyrsa2nubWyAhNE8J-xFWd_VytCtPw75NMBChN6bW6ds9HEzNaimPJyC__I1o7oSG3AMc/s1600/DSC00648.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTdJ4DiJj1_an6FCv6buH5HhFqx_9hz4YCxxM3A-hsG1nYG1OxAC9RGOTvIgD_xjFONpRhn5wyrsa2nubWyAhNE8J-xFWd_VytCtPw75NMBChN6bW6ds9HEzNaimPJyC__I1o7oSG3AMc/s320/DSC00648.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She's has won enough competitions that she is now in the Prize Winner category. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also finished up this old quilt started in 1997 from a pattern in McCall's Quilting magazine. I quilted it on my Bernina. It was the first time I used the stitch regulator on the machine and it worked great. The machine also has a thread cutter which I used extensively. That was not so great though because it leaves a bit of a mess on the back. I am very happy to have this quilt done at last!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCU5glH5G1BDuxCK2hrtxVyTqU_coyMGuNMDBflTLPO72fOq-LkPeYmNNfseouZ3xfvGjjNx9EtfMzYqHi30z4NsaWz-fsDdQYESjdFlp-ZAMuzB9BX8kMB5N1bxfLXOerlAUHDryPTjA/s1600/DSC02027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCU5glH5G1BDuxCK2hrtxVyTqU_coyMGuNMDBflTLPO72fOq-LkPeYmNNfseouZ3xfvGjjNx9EtfMzYqHi30z4NsaWz-fsDdQYESjdFlp-ZAMuzB9BX8kMB5N1bxfLXOerlAUHDryPTjA/s320/DSC02027.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And over the summer I got a new longarm!!! After much research, I ended up with an Innova 26 inch machine. It is wonderful! I'm still gaining experience using it but it is so much easier to use than the Husqvarna Megaquilter on the Grace Next Generation frame that I previously used for frame work.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is the first real quilt I quilted on it. As you can see, my cat Pete thinks it makes a great bed! The quilt is from a workshop I did with Mark Lipinski. Fun and easy guild workshop with lots of time for chatting with friends.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRn7pHkQktkhkufcoUzOzMH6tePBIFc4uPa2wDJFCjuM67QGZhFfRWNY6Q1QXOC2XeUZxOT5ivrwxczxtMBQtK2oitYvl1w1jKfojjwyvAEimC8yv-tGNidDIRlGx4Ou9GpzccLaBjedY/s1600/DSC01996.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRn7pHkQktkhkufcoUzOzMH6tePBIFc4uPa2wDJFCjuM67QGZhFfRWNY6Q1QXOC2XeUZxOT5ivrwxczxtMBQtK2oitYvl1w1jKfojjwyvAEimC8yv-tGNidDIRlGx4Ou9GpzccLaBjedY/s320/DSC01996.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I didn't get a good shot of the quilting, but that might be for the best. Remember, it's my first quilt on this new machine! This pattern always looks a little crooked to me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI0Lc6walGygiSF-2p_xtih-1yPbdtllt0q2SgJqduv5FM6HuTNW3mDavA4SgZulBhyphenhyphenQP_6Lv05isjR9iWsMezADoCIeUsdaM_adqfomNjeWbEU9TXsux-J_DWkB-n-qdjsAL6pyWiols/s1600/DSC02023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI0Lc6walGygiSF-2p_xtih-1yPbdtllt0q2SgJqduv5FM6HuTNW3mDavA4SgZulBhyphenhyphenQP_6Lv05isjR9iWsMezADoCIeUsdaM_adqfomNjeWbEU9TXsux-J_DWkB-n-qdjsAL6pyWiols/s320/DSC02023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I quilted a bunch of charity quilts for my guild using pantographs. I didn't get any pictures of them either, but the guild usually take pics so I'll try to get them when they're posted. <br />
<br />
Being guild co-president for the last year has encouraged me to take a lot of workshops and I have lots of quilts ready to be quilted! Next up is a quilt I did in a Jan Krentz workshop. This was a really fun and easy quilt even with all the Y seams. Jan has the best method I've found yet for doing those Y seams. This quilt top, excluding the pieced border took two days to make! The pieces are really big. The final quilt is about 72 inches square.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the top all laid out. Our guild is having a show so all these pictures with quilts on the floor were my entries to the show! Here's just the top.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here it's loaded on my machine. With all that white expanse, I knew it would be a good quilt to try to do some fancy quilting. I had seen another star quilt done with this curved crosshatching and knew I wanted to do that on this quilt. This is my first ruler work and let me tell you, it takes a bit of practice! I really like the effect though. I looked high and low for ideas for triangle or diamond designs to put in the colored sections.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I ended up drawing my own feather design. I do this by drawing on freezer paper then sewing over the design with an unthreaded sewing machine. I can then use the pattern with holes in it with chalk to transfer the design to the quilt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a somewhat blurry picture of the whole quilt quilted. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj84aD1fbDqxvQnTiEEXNkFsunKFW9Jr3_WGXh7GcFe63oEaNUZcK_8m9trG1d1hip7kRfFM1qfRc7e_NNHOdWmefnUGiQzJKh5rYpQfcgXjS7x8k-Nwze4xrVFE4Udk4HbP6xW1Y05fP0/s1600/IMAG0287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj84aD1fbDqxvQnTiEEXNkFsunKFW9Jr3_WGXh7GcFe63oEaNUZcK_8m9trG1d1hip7kRfFM1qfRc7e_NNHOdWmefnUGiQzJKh5rYpQfcgXjS7x8k-Nwze4xrVFE4Udk4HbP6xW1Y05fP0/s320/IMAG0287.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And a detail shot of one of the corners. Again, I couldn't find any stock design so I drew my own. I'm pretty happy with how the whole quilt came out. There are lots of errors in it but that's ok. This was a learning piece.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that's my year! Hope yours is going well!</div>

Here is where I'm starting the skirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqKbtSIHpzcrpIOXETsQKEKtj87fweTjBas5FVn7YdB2VHUfsONLk0tv-5Y6OH6ae4HCoDUE5U4KqTm2RQh99akpQw9T-330UvVMsy-_5AZHVEjhvlOD5n3GzAFery-otYNM3WtzUlPIw/s1600/parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqKbtSIHpzcrpIOXETsQKEKtj87fweTjBas5FVn7YdB2VHUfsONLk0tv-5Y6OH6ae4HCoDUE5U4KqTm2RQh99akpQw9T-330UvVMsy-_5AZHVEjhvlOD5n3GzAFery-otYNM3WtzUlPIw/s320/parts.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here I am trying out a pattern for the belt part.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0nFPNj2iqDu4dFU08swYUTfh8wrJIHVd0woY-w_ecK8Rl2YtFUf9y1YnSBlZraRN_82SR8AxIlN4k2ImtRtkqRvbavc8XalPs1cqY9Vx-DDeXKorGak7zP2EHbV7w9b2HJDBLxEdkFfc/s1600/pattern+for+belt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0nFPNj2iqDu4dFU08swYUTfh8wrJIHVd0woY-w_ecK8Rl2YtFUf9y1YnSBlZraRN_82SR8AxIlN4k2ImtRtkqRvbavc8XalPs1cqY9Vx-DDeXKorGak7zP2EHbV7w9b2HJDBLxEdkFfc/s320/pattern+for+belt.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
It doesn't look like it on Meg, but the skirt was pretty straight across the bottom when it should curve like a smile. And the shoulder hung off. I ended up taking the bodice apart to interface the entire thing. I thought stretch velvet would be better for a dance costume, but others told me it had to be interfaced to keep it's shape and to support the weight of the skirt. Once I interfaced it, I still had to adjust the sleeve/armsceye a little bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJsArwTGQYT-g5WkqQGDrQLZd5wIeHLnBgMga1rM4fgamEmXfrvaxUpEZVcEc-yLVgNN1PDY3DQXBtfPv_skDwrW_GyujdoYCihf1Bi1hVpgaUyA_fRaWTKukxFaWys5NPChvF20PQeFg/s1600/Shoulder+fixed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJsArwTGQYT-g5WkqQGDrQLZd5wIeHLnBgMga1rM4fgamEmXfrvaxUpEZVcEc-yLVgNN1PDY3DQXBtfPv_skDwrW_GyujdoYCihf1Bi1hVpgaUyA_fRaWTKukxFaWys5NPChvF20PQeFg/s320/Shoulder+fixed.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Nearing completion. The bodice is remade. The skirt is remade to smile more. Now to mark the correct length so I can finish the skirt and attach it to the bodice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSbdW9BAm4bU-u1dGw9WQmbzFZ-NwXwAy00QEsvqmNtq9Zdznu7NwCj5obmim5NTCnZmqcf2m5sl7MoqZ-oFprFzLV3vGbCzhQ-Q-ugj3zFc_r7vCtBx2jBTYweX6qByGcjYFU2kbC-po/s1600/NearingCompletion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSbdW9BAm4bU-u1dGw9WQmbzFZ-NwXwAy00QEsvqmNtq9Zdznu7NwCj5obmim5NTCnZmqcf2m5sl7MoqZ-oFprFzLV3vGbCzhQ-Q-ugj3zFc_r7vCtBx2jBTYweX6qByGcjYFU2kbC-po/s320/NearingCompletion.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I still need to add boning to the skirt front, finish off the inside of the skirt and attach it to the bodice. Resew in the zipper as it ripples. And finish off the sleeve hem treatment. The final thing will be the cape, which I haven't even thought about yet. And only one more week until Christmas when I'm supposed to give it to her.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08512775527967148899noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1742724491164119751.post-54940124737184728152010-10-02T08:32:00.000-07:002010-10-02T08:32:23.080-07:00Happy Day, Lucky DayYay! Guess what happened to me today? <br />
<br />
I won an Accuquilt GO! Fabric Cutter as well as three dies!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7NsYcxSq15nM_No06xW9hEj-nPblPfIIaiu7DJRo98NY6BRa4pHwb-Qlj3mAWDgMtzFfnSlyCs3jni2yIw7S36P_QSlH5Rxjz9Q6LEVcLHm4SCh8W8H5vmrIo7BfQLfNH1D4aYxo7wNY/s1600/GO.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7NsYcxSq15nM_No06xW9hEj-nPblPfIIaiu7DJRo98NY6BRa4pHwb-Qlj3mAWDgMtzFfnSlyCs3jni2yIw7S36P_QSlH5Rxjz9Q6LEVcLHm4SCh8W8H5vmrIo7BfQLfNH1D4aYxo7wNY/s320/GO.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Jane hosted the contest on her <a href="http://janesfabrics.blogspot.com/">blog</a> that you should GO! check out. Jane has been experimenting with her own GO! cutter and dies. She has me wanting to make an apple core quilt. It looks pretty easy with the GO! since it cuts registration marks right along with the apple core shape. I can't wait to get mine! <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #a64d79;">Thanks so much Jane and Accuquilt!!</span></b>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08512775527967148899noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1742724491164119751.post-78587374814407122662010-07-13T14:47:00.000-07:002010-07-13T14:47:10.129-07:00Proud NanaMy granddaughter, Megan, is learning to embroider like her uncle Matt.<br />

A couple of hours at a stretch. It doesn't seem to be making any progress!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnWfyvcV7TzQEfcv5Yg47wDGIPYU6S_FtMEcPdfiZb2r86LEIJLQMSzTs6wVl-_ZQbOaXzD8aiy0JxMVLwga1GvnPgJzQrbQY0U1xNEIaBG_o2uqBPcK1FMU_dCoLx2QJNOxi6fEKvJF8/s1600/IMG_7712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnWfyvcV7TzQEfcv5Yg47wDGIPYU6S_FtMEcPdfiZb2r86LEIJLQMSzTs6wVl-_ZQbOaXzD8aiy0JxMVLwga1GvnPgJzQrbQY0U1xNEIaBG_o2uqBPcK1FMU_dCoLx2QJNOxi6fEKvJF8/s320/IMG_7712.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I still have all that blue border, stitch in the ditch around the applique and quilt the applique blocks background. I don't think the blue border will show the quilting very well, so I think I am going to practice some motifs in it. Here's a bigger picture:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGQHvqiw5j2biRBRUKOj1HeUBEPgIhgwso0e2f18IIQxEW-GPXItFii_NaYXnY8PNQEAf_jrRXiQHBaZrqF7xb8NctO2hQ8igWzjSunzgYf8JVyZgUI5JKqd_sJQVCgwWs3Q1BbozYzfc/s1600/IMG_7711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGQHvqiw5j2biRBRUKOj1HeUBEPgIhgwso0e2f18IIQxEW-GPXItFii_NaYXnY8PNQEAf_jrRXiQHBaZrqF7xb8NctO2hQ8igWzjSunzgYf8JVyZgUI5JKqd_sJQVCgwWs3Q1BbozYzfc/s320/IMG_7711.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I know, kind of funky and I surely do need practice! Harriet Hargrave said that the more quilting you have in a piece, the less any one element stands out (those bad parts) so it makes all of your quilting looking better. I'm banking on that!<br />

I love that graffiti look. The book was written by </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 20px;"><a href="http://www.alisaburke.com/book.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Alisa Burke</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">. Alisa also does a ton of <a href="http://www.alisaburke.com/workshops/onlineworkshops.html">online workshops</a> that look terrific. I might have to try one once I check out the book. The interesting thing is that you can take many of these workshops anytime; you don't have to wait for it to start and you can work at your own pace.</span></span></span></div><div style="font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Helvetica; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: small;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;"><br />

I'm nearly done with this quilt that has been lingering around my house for thirteen years. The top is done; I just need to quilt it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8_cKs5eTVc8EoGGcnOCpdZGxTpBHR5VeURqizhpGe3kli34zygFE73paDrevGUEJf3HAImQCJMAFeEn1lfJNOhoqJkA0EokzpNBvpo1JC-a4P_q_yGqKK2IgDaBY9gXx6miCfOMenUAM/s1600/IMG_7557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8_cKs5eTVc8EoGGcnOCpdZGxTpBHR5VeURqizhpGe3kli34zygFE73paDrevGUEJf3HAImQCJMAFeEn1lfJNOhoqJkA0EokzpNBvpo1JC-a4P_q_yGqKK2IgDaBY9gXx6miCfOMenUAM/s640/IMG_7557.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yes, I do need a bigger design wall. Notice that I have the upper right hand taped to the door! It feels really good to have this top done. When I started it, I of course planned to hand quilt it. Back then, I wasn't any good at machine quilting and thought real quilts were hand quilted. Now I can do machine quilting, but this is such a traditional quilt that I think it needs hand quilting. On the other hand, I really don't want to spend months more working on this quilt so I will probably end up machining it. I'm a little stumped on how to quilt it too.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I did mitered corners on the outer border because I thought it would look funny since it's such a directional print. I had to cut the fabric cross grain so I took some care in piecing the two pieces for each side. I had dreams of matching up the designs in the miter, but that really didn't work out too well and it was more work than I wanted to do. I do kind of wish I had taken the time though since I'd never done that before. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, another top off my to do list and onto my quilting list! I need to start quilting really, really soon as I have way to many quilts on that list.</div><br />

I have been painting for the last two weekends. No sewing done, just painting. First primer everywhere then woodwork, then two coats on the ceiling and walls. It's finally done!</div><div><br />

<div>While doing all this painting, I was thinking quilting by listening to to Brye Lynn's podcast. If you haven't heard it yet, go to <a href="http://www.sewstitchcreate.com/podcasts/">sewstitchcreate</a> website. I listened to about six months worth of podcasts while painting. Love it!</div></div><br />
